Presidents Message

Welcome the 2020-2021 Board of Directors

September marked the start of a new SMPS New Mexico term for the Board of Directors. Over the last month and a half we have made final position determinations and I'm pleased to announce the new incoming 2020-2021 Board of Directors:

In a year that has tested our skills, resilience, and commitment I find hope in the optimism and drive of this new Board. Representing all disciplines of the A/E/C industry this team is already working hard to develop the most relevant programs and training modules. They're also modifying member and sponsorship benefits in order to offer the most value in a world that has less hand-shakes. If there was ever a time for you to get involved as a volunteer or sponsor, now is that time.

Virtual programming, while challenging at first, has offered us many new opportunities.
The Southwest Region of SMPS Chapters (Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico) are finding strength in numbers and have started discussing ways to cross-market our programs and events. This partnership among chapters is exactly the kind of business development and member benefit our national organization intended. Flexibility of promotion, access to speakers, and an ever-growing digital network are just a few things this new virtual platform has given us.

2020 may seem like it's lasted an eternity but time keeps on slipping… into a future full of conference spaces and in-person networking events. Next fall, in November 2021, the Arizona Chapter will host the SMPS Southwest Regional Conference (SWRC). They are in the midst of planning efforts as we speak, so if you are interested in speaking, sponsoring, or volunteering please reach out to me so I can get you connected with the group. The skills/experience you pick up helping Arizona this year, will prepare you to help when New Mexico takes our turn as host in 2022.

SMPS New Mexico has some great programming scheduled to finish out this year. Our Coffee & Conversations, a casual morning meet-up to exchange ideas loosely structured around a general theme, is focused on the value of becoming a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM). Our main November program will focus on COVID-19 safety as we enter the cold and flu season, with speakers Dr. Michelle Peacock, MSN, FNP-BC with the New Mexico Veterans Affairs Hospital, and Ryan Mast, Director of Environmental Health with the City of Albuquerque. Please visit our events page for registration information.

Finally, I want to say thank you. Thank you all for your patience as the Chapter has refocused... and then refocused again over the last 7 months. Thank you to each of the new Board members. I look forward to working with you all and am inspired by your fresh ideas and collaborative spirit. When you stand where I'm standing, 2020 doesn't look all that bad.

Be safe everyone, mask up, and we'll see you in Zoom!
