Keeping yourself and your staff motivated as the year progresses is a challenging task. No matter the season, there always seems to be outside influences that take priority. However, for those of us that work in Marketing and Business Development for the A/E/C industry the main priority will always be ensuring that we are winning work for our companies. Our May SMPS New Mexico Program brought us some great tips and tricks on nailing your upcoming project interview. Our speaker, Dena Wyatt, a seasoned presentation and interview coach provided the group with some stellar ideas on how to make your team shine when you make the shortlist. Because let’s face it, as much up-front work that you put into getting to know about a project, and as great as your proposal looks, anyone can make-it or break-it when they get to the interview.
In June, we learned about the generational differences we’re encountering in today’s marketplace. Moving forward, we’ll all have to deal with different generational expectations in communications within the workplace and with clients. Embracing these different viewpoints and building a motivating and inspiring environment for employees will be key for firms to recruit and retain talent, as well as build effective business development strategies with clients.
As SMPS New Mexico moves forward, we’ll continue to look at programming that helps you and your firm win work, hear about the newest best practices in the industry, and establish and expand your network. We have some great programming coming up in the next few months. We hope you’ll join us at upcoming programs, and maybe even consider sponsoring one of our events, or volunteering to become a committee member. Our chapter continues to grow and thrive because of the hard work of those who volunteer their time and I encourage those who may have an interest in being involved to do so.
There may even be an umbrella drink in it for you.
